Institutional Fixed Income Sales/Trading Internships
G. X. Clarke & Co. has several internships available in our Sales/ Trading Internship program. The program runs approximately 10 - 12 weeks with the interns participating in a similar but abbreviated program developed for our Sales and Trading Trainees.
Our summer internship program is designed to enable our candidates to make meaningful contributions to our firm by mid summer. Upon completion of the program the intern should have a working knowledge of the government securities industry, as well as, a NASD Series 72 license.
Our internship program includes but is not limited to the following:
- Introduction to the Marketplace
A. Structure of the marketplace and the role of the players
B. Fixed Income Products at G. X. Clarke & Co.
C. Language of the Market - Introduction to external trading platforms.
- Learning about our internal proprietary single dealer E-Trading platform, GXeCute
- Achieving a solid understanding and appreciation of our Company culture at G. X. Clarke & Co. where the customer comes first and is always treated in a professional and ethical manner.
- Developing an understanding of G. X. Clarke & Co.’s Institutional account base and their respective investment strategies.
- Preparation and mentoring for the NASD Series 72 license.
The interns’ primary goals during their internship are to use their “hands on” learning experience to (1) successfully pass the NASD 72 Exam and (2) gain the confi dence of their mentors and co-workers by working productively within our team environment, and thereby receive increased responsibilities in our trading and sales departments.
Interns who excel in meeting both goals will be considered for full time employment upon graduation, as well as, a continued internship in the fall and spring semesters.

Location: Jersey City, NJ (A VERY brief train ride from lower Manhattan)
Days/Hours: The firm expects all associates to arrive on time each day prepared for work during the hours established by industry standards and our customers’ requirements.
Starting Date: May 18, 2009
Other starting dates may be considered provided that these dates, in our opinion, allow the intern enough time to achieve the stated objectives of the internship.
Qualifications: Class of 2010 or 2011.
Eligible students must have a strong interest in the financial markets with emphasis on a dealer's front office sales/trading environment. Prospective candidates' backgrounds should demonstrate coursework in one or more of the following curriculums: hard sciences such as engineering or computer science, mathematics, finance, economics and marketing.
Applicants must possess a determined demeanor which allows him/her to work in a team environment and still excel as an individual. A demonstrated, hands-on, knowledge of both Microsoft Word and Excel are essential requirements for this position. Past internships and work experience should be noted and will be considered.
