Alvan T. - Viola D. Fuller American Cancer Society Research Fellowship

The Alvan T. - Viola D. Fuller Fellowships offer undergraduate students from New England an opportunity to participate in laboratory research with accomplished investigators and carries a stipends of $4,500.
 
Upon selection, fellows are placed in labs at leading New England research institutions, such as teaching hospitals, universities, and medical schools.
 
Summer fellowships last a minimum of 10 weeks. The Fuller Committee, composed of senior scientists, chooses and places the Fellows.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be residents of New England (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, or VT) and enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program anywhere in the country.
  • Seniors and juniors are eligible, and preference is given to those with advanced science/public health course work.
  • Lab skill and interest in research required for science majors.
  • Minority students are encouraged to apply.

To apply:

  • By Monday, December 1, 2008:  Mail, email or fax to the Fuller Committee (contact information below) the names and email addresses of two sponsoring science/public health faculty most familiar with your work.  Reference questionnaires will be emailed to the faculty you have named, and they will be asked to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf.  The questionnaires and letters of recommendation must be returned to the Committee by Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • By Friday February 13, 2009: You must submit an application form, essay (#20 on the application form), and resume.
  • Additionally, you must have your transcript sent directly by the Registrar's Office to the contact person listed below by Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • Your application, essay and resume may be sent via email or postal mail.

Deadlines:

  • Monday, December 1: mail, email or fax to the Fuller Committee (contact information above) the names and email addresses of two sponsoring science/public health faculty most familiar with your work.  Reference questionnaires will be emailed to the faculty you have names, and they will be asked to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf.  The questionnaires and letters of recommendation must be returned to the Committee by Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • If you would like the Summer Internship Program to send your application for you, please submit your application, essay, and resume to the Sumemr Internship Program, Hogan 203 by 4:00 pm EDT on Thursday, January 29, 2009
  • If you wish to send your materials on your own they must be received by the Fuller Committee by Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • Official transcripts must be received by the Fuller Committee from the Registrar by Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • No late applications will be considered.
