EVC Group, a rapidly growing, San Francisco-based business communications firm is seeking a financial media relations intern for its New York office. The successful candidate will spend ten weeks working with EVC Group’s senior management to create and execute programs designed to increase the visibility of clients in the business and financial media.
Founded in 2002, EVC Group is one of the fastest growing business communications practices in the nation. The firm is dedicated to working with the CEOs and CFOs of micro- and small-cap companies, or companies preparing to go public, to develop and execute communications strategies that enhance the understanding of the client’s investment characteristics and valuation. EVC Group helps to fill the growing senior management “Advocacy Deficit” that has emerged with the implementation of Sarbanes Oxley and other regulatory initiatives.
As of February 1 EVC Group had 19 clients. More than half are in the in the healthcare industry with the remainder from the technology, financial services, transportation services, and consumer products industries. These including one of the largest Chinese-American banks in North America, the nation’s second largest snack nut brand, and the leading manufacturer of automated external defibrillators. (Counseling medical technology companies, in fact, is a particular area of expertise.)
The intern will report to the firm’s New York-based managing director for public relations, Steve DiMattia, a graduate of the college, class of 1993.
The ideal intern would be an incoming senior, possess exceptional online research skills and an abiding interest in the news, and write with forceful clarity. A basic understanding of the capital markets is preferred. During the summer the intern may be expected to do the following:
- To staff a news bureau responsible for actively monitoring market news and news regarding specific companies and industries that could be useful for providing counsel to our clients;
- Maintain databases of journalists actively writing about our clients’ industries and markets;
- Prepare materials for new business presentations and proposals;
- Demonstrate active reading of the Wall Street Journal, New York Times business section, and other relevant business and trade publications;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the firm’s accounts;
- Participate in the preparation of a “roadshow itinerary,” arranging media meetings during senior management dedicated time for investor relations;
- Draft news releases regarding corporate developments such as acquisitions, new product introductions, and executive appointments;
- Market news to a target list of journalists at financial newswires, local and online business pages.
- Participate in conference calls or in-person meetings with clients, as appropriate and on a case-by-case basis.
- Identify a client story, prepare a feature story pitch and target the appropriate reporter. Presuming the reporter agrees, prepare the client’s spokesperson for the interview;
- Perform other, various administrative functions, as assigned.
