Special Events Intern

City Parks Foundation is looking for a full-time summer intern to assist in the Development Department, which raises funds through corporate sponsorships, special events, grant proposals, and major gifts.  You will assist in two main areas: planning and executing the summer’s special events and assisting with general fundraising (preparing proposals, donor research, etc).

This is an excellent opportunity for a college student interested in general nonprofit development, grant writing, and/or event planning.

Event Responsibilities: 

  • Help with pre-event preparation including preparing materials for transport, assembling gift bags, and organizing ticket and check-in materials.
  • Process donations; write and send acknowledgment letters to donors.
  • Track RSVPs and maintain guest lists for each event.
  • Compile and edit lists for mailings, merge letters and labels, assemble and mail out invitations and letters to board members and donors.
  • Communicate with board and committee members, event guests, and donors.
  • Provide general office support.

Fundraising Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing proposals, reports, budgets, and supporting materials.
  • Research prospective individual and institutional donors.
  • Provide general administrative support, including using CPF’s database.
  • Special projects as assigned.

CPF is the only independent, nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City.  CPF works in over 700 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports, and education programs and helping citizens to support their parks on a local level.  Our programs and community-building initiatives reach more than 600,000 New Yorkers each year, contributing to the revitalization of neighborhoods throughout New York City.

Location: New York, NY

Compensation: This 10-week, full time internship carries a stipend from the Holy Cross Leadership Council of New York.

Qualifications:  Class of 2009 or 2010. You must be admitted to the Summer Internship Program to apply.

  • Enthusiasm, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.  Ability to work in a team and alone, and to communicate well in person and via phone and email.
  • Strong research, writing, and word processing skills.
  • Experience with and/or interest in grant writing, event planning, and general nonprofit fundraising a plus. 
  • Interest in arts and cultural parks programming, urban affairs, and NYC government helpful.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and general office skills.  Database experience preferred.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
