Corporate Communications Summer Intern

Job Description:  Position is at corporate headquarters in Franklin Lakes, N.J. (35 minutes northwest of the George Washington Bridge in Bergen County) from May-August, 2007 in the Corporate Communications department.  This department has responsibility for external and internal communications, including executive visibility, corporate press releases, media relations, and corporate intranet.  Also works closely with public relations associates in segments and regions, as well as with Public Policy and Investor Relations. 
 
Responsibilities:
The intern will support BD’s Corporate Communications Department, which is responsible for internal and external communications for the Company.
 
• Write feature stories for BDOne, the Company’s corporate intranet.
 
• Research/write/update one-page reports on BD facilities to serve as a quick reference guides  Update existing documents to reflect changes in the last year, and create documents for facilities that have not been done yet. These will be used by Public Policy and Corporate Communications in educating policymakers and the media about BD.
 
• Collecting, organize, condense and edit information for BD’s Quarterly Awards and Recognitions round-up, to be issued globally in mid-July.
 
• Attend executive interviews and other meetings relating to the concept development and early discovery phases for BD’s 2008 Annual Report.
 
• Work on various projects with the Manager of Internal Communications and the Director of Social Investing in areas relating to corporate social responsibility and philanthropy.
 
• Assist BD Biosciences communications team by updating communications materials. This entails research, writing and collaboration with Biosciences executives.
 
• Learn about media relations by sitting in on executive interviews throughout the internship and developing media lists for various BD locations and businesses.
 
• Update and improve corporate overview and awards presentations.
 
• Learn about investor relations area during July Earnings week.

Qualifications: Class of 2009 or 2010. You must be admitted to the Summer Internship Program to apply for this internship.

Candidates should have excellent writing skills and verbal communications skills, and a willingness to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
