Summer Intern
Organization Summary: The Avon Foundation, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families. The Avon Foundation currently brings this mission to life through a commitment to two key causes: breast cancer and domestic violence. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992, supports access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved. The Speak Out Against Domestic Violence initiative launched in 2004, focuses on awareness, education, community outreach, direct service programs and prevention. Through 2008, Avon global philanthropy has raised and awarded $660 million worldwide.
Position Summary: This internship position is focused on the daily workings of a non-profit Foundation, and will therefore support various initiatives of the Avon Foundation, including: Domestic Violence grants and programs, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in working on cause-related programs, and have excellent administrative, organizational and research skills.
The position is based in Manhattan, New York and runs from early June through mid-August (exact dates TBD).
Key Responsibilities:
The intern will support various programs of the Foundation team, including:
- Assisting in the administration of the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade (BCC) application process (researching BCC applicants, filing, data entry)
- Database management and entry for the Grant application and proposal process (RFP)
- Assisting with Foundation communications (turndown letters, responding to inquiries from the general public, assisting with donor reporting)
- Assisting in the production of mass mailings (creating mail merges and assembling shipments)
- Developing and updating content for Avon Walk around the World for Breast Cancer, Avon Global Philanthropy, and Avon Foundation web sites
- Facilitate event production elements of Avon Foundation events including sponsor support, mailings, filing, invoice reconciliation, email communications

Qualifications: Class of 2010 or 2011. You must be admitted to the Summer Internship Program to apply for this internship.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize well, and work independently or on a team
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and mail merging
- Strong internet research skills, including the ability to proficiently use online databases and search engines
- Experience writing web copy preferred
