Holy Cross Men's Soccer Donates Equipment To Haiti

Holy Cross alumnus helps to train Haitian coaches and players

WORCESTER, Mass. – The men's soccer program recently donated a decade's worth of past uniforms and training gear as well as several soccer balls to assist with soccer in Haiti. On June 27, John Evans '74, an assistant soccer coach at Westfield State College went to Port Au Prince for two weeks of training with coaches and players. Evans met current Holy Cross head coach Ted Priestly at this year's soccer alumni game on April 18 where they discussed the trip. "To assist John Evans in spreading goodwill to the people of Haiti is an honor and a privilege," said Priestly. "This project has such a positive mission, and we are happy to help John and his wife Elena in whatever way we can."

Konbit Football Ayiti (KFA) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to provide quality coaching, equipment, food and education to the communities that need it most. KFA recognizes that in Haiti a local football club is one the best ways to give children the opportunity to realize their true potential as players. The club can also help bring a community together, foster a sense of self worth and aid in dismantling deeply rooted social apartheid. KFA's goal is that every player is a student, healthy, and plays an active role in the advancement of their community and country.
