April 25, 2007 Campus security updates from Holy Cross Public SafetyWORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross Public Safety has received information from the FBI concerning a possible threat to a college campus in the Worcester and/or Providence area. Additional information and updates will be posted below as necessary. Update - 6:15 p.m.The FBI field office in Providence, R.I., has told the Providence Journal newspaper that the FBI has determined that possible threats of violence against Worcester and/or Providence area colleges are "not credible" and came from a person arrested in Seekonk who claimed to police to have the information. Update - 11:38 a.m.At this time, after having been in contact with the FBI and area college Public Safety departments, there is nothing new or further to report. Public Safety requests that you continue on with your normal studies and duties of the day. We will continue to keep you updated as to any further developments as they are received. Please know that Public Safety is in contact with federal, state and local authorities and is available to assist you in any way that we can. Update - 10:26 a.m.Holy Cross Public Safety has received information from the FBI concerning a possible threat to a college campus in the Worcester and/or Providence area. We are continuing to actively gather more information on the validity of this threat. Other colleges in the City of Worcester have received this warning. Federal agents have not provided specific information regarding whether any specific campus was mentioned or any timeframe associated with the threat. At this time law enforcement agencies have not been able to verify the threat. However in light of the Virginia Tech tragedy, we want you to be aware of it. We are receiving assistance from the Worcester Police Department and State Police while we gather additional information on the validity of this threat. We are asking all members of the campus community to be alert and aware of your surroundings. Please report any suspicious persons or activities to Public Safety immediately at 508.793-2222. Although we cannot confirm this threat, we want to err on the side of caution. We will provide additional information about this situation when it becomes available.
