April 09, 2007 Collaborative Opens Debate About Diversity vs. National UnityWORCESTER, Mass. – For the past 12 years, the Humanities Scholars’ Collaborative has brought hundreds of area high school students to a series of seminars and discussions at area colleges. David Roach, superintendent of Millbury Public Schools, and Jim Hedlund, the recently retired humanities curriculum coordinator of the Wachusett school district, are two of the organizers and founders of the Collaborative. On April 15, they will join host Jim Hannon on “Worcester: Academically Speaking” to explain how the Collaborative unites students from 11 area high schools for events throughout the year at Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester State College and Assumption College. This year, the series will culminate on April 30 at Millbury High School with debates on various resolutions related to maintaining diversity without sacrificing national unity in the United States. This weekly half-hour radio program, which airs Sundays at 7:30 a.m. on WTAG-AM (580), is sponsored by the Community Relations Committee of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc.
