Holy Cross to Host Teleconference on Servicing Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross will host a national Postsecondary Education Programs Network (PEPNet) Satellite Teleconference on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in Stein Hall 102. The program, titled "Emerging Legal Trends: Impact on Services for
Postsecondary Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing,” will be facilitated by Jeanne M. Kincaid. The event is free and open to the public.

Kincaid is a nationally recognized disability rights attorney. During the live teleconference she will address several issues currently facing colleges and universities throughout the nation. A panel of experts will provide participants with proven best practices when serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing at all levels of postsecondary education.

Among the topics to be addressed:

• Effective interagency agreements with vocational rehabilitation
• Finding and keeping qualified people to provide services
• Working with students who have a cochlear implant
• The changing demographics of college students who are deaf or hard of hearing

The teleconference is intended to be a highly interactive session. Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance by e-mail or to call in with questions during the live broadcast.

This event is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Site For the Northeast Technical Assistance Center (NETAC), College of the Holy Cross, Northeastern University, Bristol Community College and Holyoke Community College.
