Kimball Film Series Continues at Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass. – The following films will be
shown at Kimball Theatre at the College of the
Holy Cross. Admission is $1.50 for students with
a college ID and $2.50 for the general public.
"Far
From Heaven"
Wed., March 12: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m.
Starring Julianne Moore. This film, set in the
1950s, crosses sexual and racial lines and exposes
prejudices that, while palpably overt in that
period, still exist in some form today.
"Harry
Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
Fri., March 14 and Sat., March 15:
Showing at 7 p.m. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and
Emma Watson. Harry returns to Hogwarts for his
second year and tries to find a way to save the
school from the dangerous, dark forces threatening
it.
"Rabbit-Proof
Fence"
Wed., March 19: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m.
Starring Kenneth Branagh. This tale of three
young sisters who escape an internment camp for
Aborigines
introduces us to Australia's racist past. Based
on actual events.
"Die
Another Day"
Fri., March 21 and Sat., March 22: Showing
at 7 p.m. Starring Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry.
Danger lurks in North Korea and it's
up to James Bond and friends to prevent an international
catastrophe. Will they succeed? Do they know
something that the government doesn't know?
"Adaptation"
Wed., March 26: Showings at 3 and 8
p.m. Starring Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep.
A depressive
screenwriter (played by Cage) flirts with insanity
as he tries to complete a screen adaptation.
The film has been called extraordinary and
intelligent.
"25th
Hour"
Fri., March 28 and Sat., March 29: Showing
at 7 p.m. Starring Ed Norton. Spike Lee's latest
is a crime story about a drug dealer's last night
of freedom before he begins a seven-year jail
term.
"Nicholas
Nickleby"
Wed., April 2: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m.
Starring Charles Hunnam and Christopher Plummer.
You'll have a dickens of a good time watching
the young hero absorb all the blows Victorian
England can throw at him and still come out standing.
"The
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"
Fri., April 4 and Sat., April 5: Showing
at 7 p.m. Starring Elijah Wood, Ian McKellan
and Viggo Mortensen. The tale continues as magic
and
gore combine in a medieval adventure that is
eternal.
"About
Schmidt"
Wed., April 9: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m.
Starring Jack Nicholson. Schmidt (played by Nicholson)
is an Omaha insurance executive who discovers,
on the occasion of his retirement, that an entire
world lies out there with which he is not acquainted.
"The
Recruit"
Fri., April 11 and Sat., April 12: Showing
at 7 p.m. Starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell.
An intelligent spy flick in which a CIA
recruit enters the shadow world built on subterfuge
and betrayal where trust is a rare commodity.
"The
Hours" (tentative)
Wed., April 23: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m.
Starring Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryl
Streep. This beautifully acted film is about
three women in different decades linked by Virginia
Woolf's novel, Mrs. Dalloway. Fri.,
April 25 and Sat., April 26: NO FILM
"Narc"
Fri., May 2 and Sat., May 3: Showings
at 3 and 8 p.m. Starring Jason Patric and Ray
Liotta. A thriller in which two Detroit lawmen
hunt a copkiller while confronting their personal
demons.
