First class in Smith Laboratories 'inaugurates' chalkboard

The state-of-the-art Park B. and Linda Smith Laboratories opened its doors to students on Jan. 14, the first day of the spring semester.

Ronald Jarret, professor of chemistry and dean of the class of 2012, started off his 9 a.m. Organic Chemistry class by asking students to inaugurate the chalkboard by writing or drawing something on it that says chemistry to them. Responses ranged from writing “sublimation” and H20 to drawing beakers and chemical structures.
