National Alcohol Screening DayThursday, March 25Where do you draw the line when it comes to your health, safety and future success? Recent research says that alcohol on college campuses is strongly related to accidents, sexual assault, injury – and even death. So be smart. Don't be a statistic. Learn what you need to know – so you can draw the line for yourself, or help a friend in trouble. In conjunction with a lecture on the realities of alcohol dependence by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of Dry: A Memoir, Holy Cross will hold this year's National Alcohol Screening Day early. Screenings will take place on Thursday, March 25 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Hogan 1st Floor Lobby. (Students only please.) Students participating in National Alcohol Screening Day will fill out a brief anonymous survey and spend a few minutes reviewing their answers with a healthcare professional. Referrals for further evaluation will be provided when appropriate. Students will walk away knowing if their score is consistent or not consistent with harmful levels of alcohol use. All participants will be entered in a raffle for a set of MediaMate Computer Speakers from BOSE. National Alcohol Screening Day addresses a variety of drinking behaviors including risky drinking and alcohol dependence. The event is designed to raise public awareness about the consequences of drinking, including alcohol's effect on a person's general health and its role in specific medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and certain types of cancer. |
