Holy Cross Honors Legacy of Longtime Choir Director

Bruce I. Miller (1947 - 2003)

A celebration of the life of Bruce Miller, longtime music professor, and director of the College Choir and Chamber Singers, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Hogan Ballroom.

Miller passed away unexpectedly this summer at the age of 56. A member of the Holy Cross music department faculty since 1975, Miller dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to Holy Cross.

Under the direction of John Delorey, interim director of the College Choir and Chamber singers, music for the memorial event will be provided by a 40-piece orchestra and the combined vocal forces of more than 150 students and alumni.

Three members of the Holy Cross community will offer testimonial speeches. They are: Rev. John Brooks, S.J., Holy Cross president emeritus; Christopher Torres ’03, former student of Miller’s and ensign, U.S. Navy Reserves; and George Ashur ’79, choir accompanist during Miller’s first four years at Holy Cross.

The memorial will also feature a video tribute. A reception will follow in the Hogan main lounge area.

In addition, the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 26 will be offered in memory of Miller.
