"Martin Luther King Jr. ... More Than a Dream" A Week of Remembrance
The Holy Cross community will commemorate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with a week of remembrance, titled "Martin Luther King Jr. ... More Than a Dream" from Monday, Jan. 20, through Friday, Jan. 24. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, Jan. 20 1 p.m - 3 p.m. - A Food for Thought Forum, featuring James Bryant, of the sociology and anthropology department, and Diana Cruz, of the English department, will take place in Hogan Suites B and C; sponsored by the Black Student Union (BSU).
6:15 p.m. - Campus-wide Candlelight Vigil and March through campus, beginning at St. Joseph Memorial Chapel; sponsored by BSU.
7 p.m. - "The Meeting," a play depicting a fictional meeting between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X will be performed in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom.
Wednesday, Jan. 22 12 p.m.- 2 p.m. - Diversity 101 Luncheon Series: "Martin Luther King Jr. ... More Than a Dream," a panel presentation, will take place in Hogan 320. Panelists include James Bryant of the sociology department, Carol Conway of the political science department, Diana Cruz of the English department, Thomas Doughton of the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies, Michael West of the history department and Ambrose Kom of Africana Studies.
Thursday, Jan. 23 7 p.m. - A lecture by Juan Williams, national political correspondent for NPR, will take place in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom. Prior to the lecture, there will be a reception at 6 p.m. in the Ballroom where Williams will be available to sign copies of his books.
Friday, Jan. 24 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. - "Acting on the Legacy," a workshop for faculty, staff and administrators will take place in Hogan 401-02; sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Education. Seating is limited; call 508-793-2411 to register.
