Holy Cross Academic Conference 2002

Holy Cross will host Academic Conference 2002 from April 19 to 21. This conference is designed to provide students from a broad spectrum of academic disciplines with an opportunity to present the results of their independent work. The programs, projects, posters and performances are the results of student work over one or two semesters under the guidance of faculty members. Over 300 Holy Cross students will be involved in the conference this year.

The conference represents a fraction of the independent and group-project opportunities of which Holy Cross students have taken advantage, and includes works from the performing and visual arts, social sciences, humanities and sciences.

Senior Caitlin Ryan reflects on her experience at last year's conference: "The conference was a rewarding experience. It gave me the opportunity to do research of my own and share it with students, faculty and parents. I enjoyed presenting what I learned and receiving feedback from such a variety of people. I learned a great deal not only from my own project but also from the projects of other participating students."

Sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College, this event is free and open to the public. The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday, April 19

College Honors: 9:30AM - 4:00PM
Students will present their honors theses in Room 406 of the Hogan Campus Center.

English Honors & Induction: 9:00AM - 11:45AM and 1:30PM - 3:45PM
Students will present their honors theses in Room 408 of the Hogan Campus Center.

Women's Studies: 9:30AM - 11:30AM and 1:00PM - 5:15PM
Students will present their concentration theses in Room 402 of the Hogan Campus Center.

Theatre: Chair/Pillow Dance: 12:00PM
Students will be performing a short dance piece in front of Cool Beans on the first floor of the Hogan Campus Center.

MLL & ASL: 12:00PM - 3:30PM
Students of the Modern Languages and American Sign Language will be presenting in the Main Lounge of the Hogan Ballroom.

Economics Honors: 1:00PM - 4:00PM
Students will present their honors theses in Room 401 of the Hogan Campus Center.

The Fenwick Presentation will be made by this year's Fenwick Scholar in the Rehm Library of Smith Hall.

Washington Semester Program: 10:30AM - 12:00PM
Students will make presentations about their experiences as interns in Washington, D.C., in Room 304 of the Hogan Campus Center.

Theatre Dance Performance: 12:30PM - 1:00PM
Students will perform a dance piece in Room B28 of O'Kane.

Students will present work from their visual art classes in the Cantor Art Gallery in O'Kane.

Students from a variety of departments will be presenting their work in the Swords Atrium. Students will be representing the following departments and programs: Anthropology, Chemistry, Classics, Gerontology, Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics, Psychology and Sociology.

Students will be presenting work on the Swords Bridge.

MLL & ASL Language Immersion Experiences: 1:00PM - 3:00PM
Students from the Modern Languages and American Sign Language will present their experiences with other language and cultures in Stein.
