Rape Aggression Defense

The Department of Public Safety offers Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training, a nationally recognized program of self defense developed by campus law enforcement professionals and designed specifically for women.

RAD begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training. It is not a martial arts program. Courses are taught by campus police officers who are nationally certified RAD instructors. All students receive a workbook/reference manual which outlines the entire RAD System of Physical Defense.

The RAD system teaches easy, effective and proven self-defense tactics and is designed to provide women with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. RAD provides effective options by teaching women to take an active role in their own self defense.

RAD courses are offered several times each year. Each course consists of four 3-hour classes. Class size is limited to 20 and each participant is provided with manuals, equipment and supplies. Courses are open to all female students, faculty and staff free of charge.

For more information on specific class schedules, or to reserve a space in a class, visit the Public Safety Department between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call (508) 793-2224.
