Student Organizations

Psi Chi, National Honor Society in Psychology

Students demonstrating high academic standings and a strong commitment to psychology receive applications for membership in their junior or senior years. As members of Psi Chi, students provide many services for the community of Worcester including tutoring, food drives and clothing drives.

Psi Chi Ceremony

Each year in February, both junior and senior psychology students are inducted into Holy Cross' chapter of Psi Chi. Currently, induction criteria states that juniors should fall within the top 10% of their class (approximately a 3.5 GPA) and have completed Research Methods. For seniors, the top 15% (approximately a 3.4 GPA).

Selection criteria for this year is far more stringent than those previously followed, and is significantly above those of the national Psi Chi organization. The national norms were raised considerably in the hopes of presenting a strong statement about the "honor" of belonging to Psi Chi, and to instill the local chapter with visible stature among Holy Cross students.

Each year, two senior co-chairs are chosen for the society. These two students have the task of re-establishing Psi Chi as an active, student-led (not faculty-led) chapter. They are also charged with the responsibility of setting an agenda for the future of Psi Chi and choosing the next class of leaders for the society.

Student Advisory Committee

The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) administers course evaluation forms to every psychology course at the end of each semester. Members of the SAC are elected by all psychology majors in the spring of each year. In addition to the course evaluation forms, SAC officers help in the evaluation process of faculty in terms of appointment, tenure or promotion.
