The Interschool Teaching Fellows Program is offering college
graduates an opportunity to gain a supervised teaching experience
in their first year of teaching. Established in 1984, the Fellows
Program is sponsored by the eight New York independent schools which
comprise the Interschool consortium. The
schools seek college graduates with at least a Bachelor's Degree
who have sound academic qualifications, a serious interest in education,
a high energy level, a genuine commitment to extracurricular activities
as part of student growth, and a desire to work in a college preparatory
day school. Whenever possible, an Interschool Fellow will be assigned
a reduced teaching load, with primary responsibility for certain
classes. Fellows will work closely with a cooperating teacher or
mentor, and have the support of and regular contact
with the Coordinator of the Fellows Program. Candidates should send
a resume and cover letter to as many of the schools participating
in the Fellows Program as they wish. They should clearly identify
the subject(s) and grade level(s) they are prepared to teach. At
the same time, they should keep in mind that teachers in small independent
schools are expected to be flexible and take on a variety of assignments.
Information about special interests and skills is helpful. Contact
information including a resume and cover letter should also be sent
to the Interschool office website at www.interschool.org.
