It was very gratifying to see and speak with so many members of
the class of 2007 last evening. Several students inquired about
resources for exploring career options. Our Accelerated Career
Exploration (ACE) Program is one such resource. Please review
the Career Planning To-Do-List for Fall 2004 or stop by Hogan
203 for a list of the dates and times at which the program is
offered. If you would prefer to meet individually with a career
counselor, please call ext 3880 to set up an appointment.
The beginning of
sophomore year is an ideal time to begin exploring the options
which you might pursue after graduation. Call 3880 or stop by
Hogan 203.

News
The Consortium, the alliance of 13 of the top 25
business schools in the US have been hastening the entry of people
of color into managerial positions in business for more than 38
years. In fact, approximately 5,000 of their alumni obtained Masters
of Business Administration (MBA) degrees through the Consortium.
African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans make
up approximately 25% of the population, yet they currently hold
a minimal percentage of all the MBAs in this country. It is clear
that these ethnic groups, which will be the majority in the workforce
of the new millennium, are grossly underrepresented. Individuals
who qualify for admission at one of the Consortium member schools
are considered for merit-based fellowships. The fellowships provide
tuition & required fees for two years of full-time study.
The average fellowship is worth $30,000 annually. We award over
350 fellowships annually to these highly qualified individuals.
Our goal is to award 400 such fellowships for the academic year
2005-2006!
For all seniors who might be interested in this fellowship, you
must apply and be accepted to one of the Consortium Colleges,
for example NYU or Dartmouth College. The application deadline
for this fellowship is December 1, 2004. For more information,
please see Dr. John Winters at the Career Planning Office, Academic
Services in Smith 214, contact Erica Reddick at (314)877-5500,
or visit The Consortium website at www.cgsm.org.

New
England Science Symposium
The
Harvard Medical Minority Faculty Program and the Biomedical Science
Careers Program (BSCP) will hold the 4th annual New England Science
Symposium on Friday, March 4, 2005. The symposium is supported
by the National Institutes of Health through the Cooperative Agreement
between Harvard Medical School Minority Faculty Development Program
and the Office of Minority Health, Department of Health and Human
Services. The aim of the symposium is to encourage post-doctoral
fellows and students, particularly underrepresented minority individuals,
involved in post-doctoral, graduate and undergraduate biomedical
or health-related scientific research, to present their research
projects through oral presentations or at a poster session and
to exchange ideas to further their career development. The Ruth

fellows involved in biomedical or health-related scientific research
who would benefit from presenting their research projects at the
symposium. The fellow and students interested in presenting at
the symposium must submit their abstract electronically to Jabbar
R. Bennett, Ph.D. The abstract must include: name of the author(s),
contact information: mailing and e-mail addresses - phone numbers,
Institution, academic level and expected year of graduation, research
title and research sponsor(s), and statement summarizing the work
to be presented (not to exceed 400 words). All abstracts will
be reviewed and applicants will be notified of acceptance by the
