Nishanthy Anthonypillai

Class of 2011
New York

Hi, my name is Nishanthi Anthonipillai, class of 2011. I was born and raised, in the City of New York, but decided that I needed quieter atmosphere for college, so here I am. I live by the phrase, "Reach for the moon because then, even if you fail, you will fall among the stars" by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I am I.N.D.I.A's (Individual Nations Developing Indian Appreciation) event coordinator, actively part of the theater department, Club Volleyball, and last, I am an Multicultural Peer Educator.

I chose to become an M.P.E because I believe that it personifies the morals that I live by. The program tempts you to step out of your comfort zone, and challenge issues that are not regularly brought up. Whether these issues are about class, race, or sexual orientation.  The issues are all part of a being a unique experience and I strongly believe that no one has the right to deny that to anyone, consciously or unconsciously. I believe that the program will allow me to be more comfortable in speaking about the issues at hand, and raising awareness about the injustices occurring throughout the world, or on a more micro level, my own personal world.
