In the Community

At Holy Cross, multicultural education extends beyond the campus to the Worcester community. Our students are active in programs designed to help prepare economically disadvantaged children and teens for college.
Kids To College (K2C)
Holy Cross students get energized by working with two Worcester elementary schools in K2C. This special curriculum combines hands-on activities with information on careers, college life, and how to choose courses that give 6th-grade students the greatest range of options for education beyond high school. Our students participate in four sessions with the 6th graders at their schools and then host them for a day at Holy Cross to show the possibilities college offers.
GEAR-UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)
This program works to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education by introducing them to Holy Cross – and to current undergraduates with a variety of backgrounds and interests. Like K2C, GEAR-UP includes a campus visit, but with a greater emphasis on the college admissions process. Holy Cross students share their own experiences of the college journey as well as emphasizing the importance of education with the GEAR-UP participants.
