Campus Outreach

An important part of creating an inclusive campus climate is connecting students with diverse backgrounds. We have a variety of ways to increase connections among ALANA students (African-American, Latin American, Asian American, Native American) and other specific social and cultural groups. Our goal is to support students in taking ownership of the full richness of their identity in meaningful ways.

Multicultural Student Organizations

The multicultural student organizations – MSOs – at Holy Cross are a foundation of identity for numerous self-identified groups. We encourage you to learn more about our current MSOs:

MSO Roundtable

While Holy Cross’ MSOs have varied purposes and constituencies, they can all benefit by sharing ideas, collaborating, and supporting one another. We provide a place for this exchange by sponsoring the MSO Roundtable. Our staff also assists the MSOs in event planning and scheduling, effective budgeting, and use of campus resources.

Mentor Program

This mentoring program supports first-year ALANA and international students, and also those in the Passport Program. Small groups of incoming students are matched with both faculty and peer mentors who offer them friendship and advice, easing the transition to life at Holy Cross.

The Bishop Healy Committee of the General Alumni Association

The Bishop Healy Committee of the General Alumni Association links alumni in outreach to ALANA students through recruitment, campus programming, and channeling alumni resources and support. The Bishop Healy Committee has an ongoing, visible presence on campus and works directly with us in achieving its goals. It collaborates with Admissions in hosting the VISIONS and Home for the Holidays programs and co-sponsors the ALANA Brunch during Family Weekend, the ALANA Town Hall Meeting, and the Senior ALANA Baccalaureate Dinner. These activities provide numerous opportunities for connection, networking, and partnership. The committee is one of the few alumni support groups established by a college alumni association to work specifically toward promoting a warm and receptive campus environment.

Alumni Connection

We make sure to keep ALANA alumni updated on opportunities for campus involvement through mentoring, networking, internships, career assistance, speaking engagements, and other avenues for offering support. Through online connection, alumni can communicate with students and be available to meet their needs.

Wider Networks

As a small college, Holy Cross has joined with others to extend its multicultural networks.

  • The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, which comprises 12 neighboring institutions, has an active ALANA Network that sponsors leadership initiatives and social and cultural events.
  • The Consortium on High Achievement and Success (CHAS) is composed of 37 private, select liberal arts colleges and small universities dedicated to promoting high achievement, leadership, and personal satisfaction of students. With a special focus on promoting success among students of color, CHAS develops programs to support the whole person. It is hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. More at:
