Access is a relational database management system. You can store, organize and manipulate large collections of data in an electronic format. This type of format allows you to extract data with ease. Access, however, can be a little intimidating when you first begin to employ it. To use it to its best ability you must become familiar with the fundamentals of database design, concept and terminology as well as the software itself. This class covers the first crucial steps to creating a database. You will learn how to create tables and determine what data should reside in the relational tables. You will then learn how to dissect the data through the use of queries. You will also create a basic form and report. |

You will learn how to create forms and reports in Access based on existing tables and queries. Forms allow you to organize fields from various tables and queries into one simple view. See how you can then add new records to your database using the simple form. Reports provide a formal view of your data. You can impress your boss by compiling important information through Access reports! Time saving tools such as form wizard and report wizard will be used in class. |

The longer you work with Access the more you will want to ask questions of your data. In this class you will learn the different types of queries Access offers. Some queries covered in class are: Calculated Field Query, Parameter Query, Find Duplicate Records Query, Finding Unmatched Record Query, Delete Query, Append Query, Make-Table Query and Update Query. |

Jesse Anderson, Director of Audio-Visual Services, will review the a/v equipment available on campus, show you how to hook up to a classroom or portable system, and discuss what to do when you have everything hooked up, but nothing on the screen.... We will also look at DVDs, VHS tapes, slides, overhead transparencies, and other types of media that you might need for a presentation.
This class is aimed at the non-technical user, and you will be provided with a number of "cheat-sheets" to help you hook up and run systems in the future. |

You will learn how to extract First, Middle and Last names from a single cell, how to remove titles from a cell, how to capitalize the first letter of every word within a cell, and how to use Conditional Formatting. |

In a standard excel worksheet you cannot change how the data is organized. However, there is a built-in tool that allows you to create worksheets that can be sorted, filtered and rearranged dynamically to highlight different aspects of your data. That tool is the PivotTable. This workshop will teach you to create and edit PivotTables from an existing worksheet. |

The primary goal is to master email techniques, although a brief overview of the calendar options is included. |
