If my son/daughter becomes ill when Health Services is closed, what should he/she do?
If the illness or injury is an emergency the student should call ext. 2222. In cases of significant illness or acute injury, students should contact Public Safety at ext. 2224. Public Safety will arrange for necessary transfer to a hospital emergency room. A physician is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year for students with urgent needs.
My son/daughter will be taking prescription medicine while at college, what is the best way to handle this?
Pharmacy delivery service can be arranged through Health Services from a local pharmacy. Students must establish an account with the pharmacy. Any charges/co-payments are billed to the student's credit card.
Must my son/daughter have a completed medical record form and physical to enter Holy Cross?
Yes, no student can receive treatment in Health Services unless a medical history and physical record are on file in Health Services.
Must my son/daughter have a complete physical each year?
No, unless required by an athletic team. A recent physical is required upon entering as a freshman or as a transfer student.
What does the Health Services fee include?
An annual health participation fee covers the cost of on-campus health services. This fee includes Nurse Practitioner, Physician and RN visits at Health Services. A number of commonly prescribed over the counter medications, dressing supplies, childhood immunizations are dispensed. In addition, Health Services sponsors various health education programs.
I am concerned about the medical status of my son/daughter; will you be able to provide me with information?
All health records of students age 18 and over are private and confidential. No medical information can be released to any party without the expressed written consent of the student. In the event of a life threatening illness, the attending physician will notify parents/legal guardian.
My son/daughter is currently receiving allergy immunotherapy. Will he/she be able to continue with this immunotherapy while at Holy Cross?
Yes, if the student submits a completed Holy Cross immunotherapy form from his/her Allergist. Patients must provide their own extracts. Allergy injections are administered by appointment when a physician is on-site. It is the policy of Health Services not to initiate immunotherapy, nor give desensitization for insect stings, which may require venom.
Do you have a Physical Therapy Department in Health Service?
No, Health Services will refer students to Physical Therapy Providers in the Worcester area.
How can my son/daughter travel to off campus referrals to a doctors office or a pharmacy if needed?
Health Services will send the student via cab (free of charge) for the initial visit to a local doctor's office or pharmacy. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for further transportation if it is required. Students may refer to http://www.TheRTA.com for more information on traveling in Worcester.
What health related items do you recommend my son/daughter take to Holy Cross?
- Tylenol/Advil
- Oral thermometer (non mercury)
- Band-Aids
- First aid ointment
- Decongestant
- Cough medicine
- Calamine lotion
- Medic Alert bracelet if serious illness
- Any maintenance medication prescribed for student (i.e. inhalers)
