Emergencies

Any emergency occurring on the Campus should be referred immediately to Public Safety at 508-793-2222. Public Safety is the emergency services coordinator on campus. All Officers are trained as First Responders. Transportation to a local hospital will be arranged or an ambulance will be directed to campus. Call 911 for all off-campus emergencies.

True Emergencies

Medical Emergencies:

  • Loss of consciousness/ convulsions
  • Severe pain
  • Severe shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing, swallowing
  • Asthma/ choking
  • Chest Pain
  • Uncontrollable Bleeding
  • Poisoning alcohol/ drug abuse
  • Major injury i.e. head, bites, deep lacerations, puncture wounds
  • Allergic reactions i.e. insect, food, drinks
  • Burns - severe
  • Drowning
  • Fractures, dislocations
  • Loss of vision
  • Diabetic complications
  • Severe nausea/ vomiting
  • Severe pain
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Chemical splash
  • Heat Stroke
  • Severe diarrhea
  • Rape

Psychological Emergencies:

  • Suicide Threat or talk
  • Bizarre behavior
  • Actions dangerous to others
  • Behavior related to persistent drug/ alcohol abuse

Non-Emergencies

  • Earaches
  • Minor cuts, lacerations
  • Sprains
  • Minor burn
  • Insect sting - If Not Allergic
  • Rash (unless related to allergic reaction)
  • Sexually transmitted disease
  • Fever (less than 101)
  • Colds
  • Minor sore throat
