Senior Reflections: The Holy Cross Impact
A semester spent in Washington helped William King pursue his passion for law — and helped him find his inner musician

English major

- For members of the graduating class who participated in one of the many senior events held this year, Will is probably the man to thank. As an active participant in the Student Government Association — he serves as co-chairman of the Reserve Board, chairman of the Student Budget Committee and Class Senator — Will has had a hand in some of seniors’ fondest memories. When you ask him about the most important thing he’ll take from his various roles, he says that it’s the sense of pride he has for enhancing campus life and establishing fruitful relationships with the Worcester community.
- Will volunteered at the Nativity School of Worcester under the auspices of Student Programs for Urban Development. He worked as a tutor, serving as a role model and inspiration to the children by encouraging them to make the most of their education, as he has done at Holy Cross.
- As an English major, and member of both the College Honors Program and the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, Will conceptualized a senior thesis on Shakespeare’s interaction with early American society. With inspiration from Helen Whall, associate professor of English, he examined the effect that the works of the noted writer had on American social and political life after the Revolutionary War.
- Will found his way to the nation’s capital for one semester of his junior year to pursue an interest in public policy. While there he had the opportunity to intern at the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, working with Pennsylvania Senior Senator Arlen Specter. His work researching information for federal and district court judges helped foster an interest in law.
- The semester spent in D.C. provided a solid foundation for his post-graduation plan — attending Columbia Law School, where he plans to study business law. Will hopes to work as a lawyer on corporate mergers and transactions.
- Holy Cross students may recognize Will from his position as the lead singer of Snufalufagus – a ska band on campus. As soon as he returned from his semester in D.C., Will found himself performing frequently with the band at all sorts of campus functions. Apparently, the nation’s capital brought out his inner musician as well!
