Our Country's Good
by Timberlake Wertenbaker

Directed by Baron Kelly

Eighteenth-century Australia was truly the land down under. Britain transported her convicts to this colony, populating an entire country with the underclass and their jailers. In Timberlake Wertenbaker's adaptation of the novel The Playmaker by Thomas Keneally (author of Schindler's List), a humanistic governor permits a group of exiles to mount a comedy of manners that becomes an emblem of their better selves, oppressed by their luckless circumstances. Baron Kelly directs this highly acclaimed drama.

Fall 2003

The Entourage
By Polly Frost

Directed by Steve Vineberg

A reading of an outrageous new comedy that sends up both the public passion for hot new celebrities and the pop-music publicity machine that stokes it. The play is an E! Channel mockumentary about a barely pubescent rock diva and the bottom feeders who surround her.

Timon of Athens
By William Shakespeare

Directed by Ed Isser

Timon is a generous man who throws away his fortune. This remarkable but rarely performed tragedy by Shakespeare is a parable about the dangers of crass materialism and the vulnerability of wealth. It resonates for our own time, when vast fortunes can still be won and lost quickly. Edward Isser sets his production during the swing era of the late '30s and early '40s, in a world of zoot-suited pimps and mobsters.
