Dancers have a "spring" in their step!
The Department of Theatre
is proud to announce an exciting upgrade of its Dance Studio (O'Kane 028). A new sprung
dance floor was installed for classes this fall, which is the very latest in dance floor technology. Developed by
Wooden Kiwi Productions LLC of Somerville, MA,
the KIWI Floor system has more give and spring to it, providing dancers with a safer surface that
will ease wear and tear on a dancer's body. (They'll also be able to jump higher!)
Many thanks to the Dean's Office and Physical Plant for their help in purchasing and
installing the floor.

2006-2007 Jean Rosenthal Grant Recipient
Pat Gavin
The Jean Rosenthal Grant Program for Lighting Design
has been established by Sara Rosenthal, Jean’s niece, and Julie Prazich to encourage students to pursue the study and practice
of computer-assisted theatrical design. Each year one rising senior who has demonstrated excellence in lighting design will
be awarded the latest in theatrical lighting design software.
The grant program honors the memory of Jean Rosenthal who was
one of the foremost figures in the history of American theatre. A pioneer in her field, she designed lights for more than
400 productions including 80 different Broadway shows (The Night of the Iguana, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, B
ecket A Taste of Honey). She was most known for her creativity, technical understanding, professionalism, and
introducing side lighting to dance performance. She died in 1969 at the age of 57.
