INTERCOLLEGIATE CENTER FOR CLASSICAL STUDIES
Rome, Italy
The Intercollegiate
Center for Classical Studies in Rome (ICCS) provides
an opportunity for students to study ancient history, archaeology,
Greek, Latin and
ancient art. Students can choose a fall program (September
to mid-December) or a spring program (late January to late May).
Each semester allows about fifteen weeks of instruction and provides
one full semester of academic credit. A major part of the academic
work is a required course called The Ancient City, which covers
Roman archaeology, aspects of the social and urban history of
Rome, and Roman civilization. Frequent site visits and explorations,
intensive museum tours and lectures, and wide ranging trips outside
Rome are featured in the
course. The program is sponsored by Duke University for students
enrolled in schools (like Holy Cross) that are members of the
ICCS Consortium. This program is available only to Classics majors.
Students interested in applying for the program should contact
the campus representative, Professor Thomas Martin, Department
of Classics, College of the Holy Cross at tmartin@holycross.edu
Student
Visa: All students studying abroad in Italy must obtain
a Visa. The process can be time consuming and must be done by
the student. Several
documents are required. You must obtain the necessary
forms and instructions from the Italian Consulate which serves
the state where you are a permanent resident. Finally,
you must appear in person at that Consulate to present the official
documents. Note that this requires travelling to the Italian
Consulate nearest to your permanent home address (and not your
summer or college residence); therefore, the application process
cannot be left until the last minute. For a list of Italian
Consulates in the U.S. and their jusrisdictions go to link.
