Location & Facilities:
Dijon,
the capital of the Côte d'Or (the heart of Burgundy wine-growing
area) is but an hour and a half southeast of Paris by fast
train (TGV).
It is the political, business, cultural and academic center
of one of France's most historic regions. The Dukes of Burgundy
who ruled this fabled land from the twelfth to the fifteenth
century endowed Dijon with treasures in art and architecture
which have been carefully preserved, and bequeathed a tradition
which continues to sustain all of the plastic and performing
arts, the pursuit of learning, and the art of living--gastronomy.
The secular Université de Dijon, founded in the early part
of the eighteenth century took the name of l'Université de Bourgogne in 1985. It is medium sized (under 17,000
students) and includes all of the modern facultés including
law, medicine, pharmacology, and business, economics graduate
school, as well the traditional liberal arts.
Academic Program:
Holy Cross has an agreement with the Faculté des Langues
et Communication under whose auspices the traditional
courses in the liberal arts may be pursued. The College
has also contracted with language specialists to provide
language support during the year. In addition, a non credit
course and tutorials given by French Department faculty
offer practical support in developing French academic
conventions (types of university assignments encountered;
the forms of French written and oral exams; note taking,
etc.). Academic Calendar.
Course
Load:
Three University courses and the required Holy Cross language and culture courses (totalling 14-16 credit hours) per semester are the
equivalent of 8 Holy Cross courses.

Independent Cultural Immersion Project (ICIP): Successful completion of the ICIP, in addition to the required course load, is necessary.
October
Orientation:
The academic advisors provide orientation to the structure
of the University; they advise and guide students through course
registration, and introduce University facilities. The
housing director oversees official formalities, and organizes
a day trip to points of interest in Burgundy.
