Testing Materials
In Self-Paced Language
courses, all examinations are administered by computer. The responses
that students submit on web-based forms are e-mailed to a course account
and then distributed to the appropriate faculty member to be graded.
While this process requires that faculty correct the exams themselves,
it is easier to administer a paperless test and the answers are more
legible. Students benefit from having partial credit assigned to answers
that might have been scored incorrectly by the computer
The web-based forms that
are used are processed by one of two PERL scripts that are available
free on the Internet.
1. Forms that use FORMMAIL,
a PERL script found at Matt's
Script Archive (FORMMAIL takes the responses
that a student enters on a webpage and sends them to his/her instructor
in an e-mail. )
2. Forms that use YFORM,
a PERL script that expands upon FORMMAIL. (YFORM
takes the responses that a student enters on a webpage and sends them
to his/her instructor. It also sends a student a copy of his/her answers
in an e-mail and can provide him/her with a link to a follow-up page.)
David E. Larkin was instrumental in the initial implementation of
these testing materials.
