Oral Practice Evaluation Criteria


1. Practicum Evaluation

Your Foreign Language Assistant will evaluate you at the end of the semester in each of the following categories. For each category, you will receive a number between 1 and 10

1. Attendance

0 absences = 10
1-2 absences = 9
3-4 absences = 8
5-6 absences = 7
7-8 absences = 6
9-10 absences = 5
11-12 absences = 4
13-14 absences = 3
15-16 absences = 2
17-18 absences =1
more than 18 absences = 0

2. Participation & Classroom Behavior (e.g., is prepared for class; volunteers; uses Spanish; asks relevant questions)

10 = Always
9 = Very Often
8 = Often
7 = Usually
6 = Rarely
5 = Never

3. Language Use (e.g. ability to get message across, vocabulary use, fluency (speed/rate of speech))

10 = Excellent
9 = Very Good
8 = Good
7 = Average
6 = Poor
5 = Fail

 


2. Oral Conferences

Your Spanish professor will meet with you to discuss your progress in the course and to practice speaking Spanish with you. The questions that she will ask you will be based on the grammar and vocabulary that you are currently studying. Although you will not be receiving a letter grade, she will evaluate your speaking skills in the following areas so that you will know what areas need improvement.

Grammar

  1. verb conjugations
  2. articles, pronouns and prepositions
  3. agreement

Vocabulary

  1. variety of expressions
  2. use of idioms
  3. use of English/Spanglish
Pronunciation
  1. consonants
  2. vowels
  3. intonation/stress
