Collaborative Group:  The military

What are families to the military?  Can you describe the way families are currently perceived and received by the U.S. military?  These basic questions are the underlying issues this group addresses.  Some worthwhile links:

Family Matters
“Military people can’t function without their families,” Hamrick said. “If they deploy and their family is left behind with issues that aren’t resolved, their heads aren’t going to be where they need to be to get the mission accomplished. We’re here to take care of the families.” Hamrick’s position is a relatively new career field, created in 1997, that demonstrates the Air Force’s support of families. Every base has a family readiness NCO, a person whose job is to make sure families have everything they need when a spouse deploys.
