Animal Acrostics

Animal Acrostics is a celebration of animals through word play. Often humorous, these animal
poems combine fact and fancy in an acrostic: the first letters of the poem's lines, when combined,  spell out the creature's name. For example, "Large Eyes. Madagascar. Unmistakable Ringtail" spells Lemur. These playful poems depict the distinctive qualities of animals: their unique features, unusual behaviors, special habitats. Animal Acrostics, fully illustrated by Michael Maydak, pays tribute to four dozen animals in five habitats--the African savannah, the rainforest, the grasslands, the northern forest, and the marine world. The book also includes information on each animal, a glossary of terms, and a brief afterward on the history and writing of acrostics. This book is ideal for teachers who wish to explore animals through language, art, and science with elementary school children (ages 8 and up, forty pages).
