I have been working to learn how to paint with watercolor (and gouache) the last two years. These are some of my better efforts. I begin with photographs I have taken, reworking the image in my sketch to develop the basic composition. Most of these are painted slowly and carefully, building up the image with washes; a few are completed quickly and directly, painting wet into wet. I'm even learning how to do both in different parts of the same painting--e.g., Peacham, Afternoon Light. The images below are roughly in the order that I painted them, though I've grouped some similar themes together. Click on the image or title to enlarge. November 2008. |
