By comparing this very early vision of the project with the final outcome in the published book, one gets a sense of the long journey the anthropologist travels in transforming an idea into a finished product. Graduate students working on their own grant proposals may derive some comfort from the fact that what one originally envisions for their project may change markedly during the course of fieldwork, based on events and experiences that arise during the fieldwork process and subsequent analysis.
