Scott M. Merrill became director of physical plant at Holy
Cross on Nov. 1, following the retirement of Gerard A. Zimmermann.
Zimmermann, who had served as director of physical plant
since 1988, was an expert in the field of facilities and
construction management. A former Naval commander, his assignments
included commanding officer of the presidential retreat at
Camp David. Zimmermann earned a bachelor's degree in civil
engineering and economics from Union College and a master's
degree in financial management at the Naval Postgraduate
School in Monterey, Calif.
Merrill has served as assistant director of physical plant
for the past 12 years, most recently coordinating the construction
of the Smith Hall. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil
engineering at Villanova University, and a master's degree
in civil engineering/construction management from Penn State.
A former commander in the United States Navy serving in the
Civil Engineers Corps/Seabees, he resides in Charlton, Mass.,
with his wife, Cathy, and their four children.
