On Dec. 11, the College community gathered for a “topping
out” ceremony of the Carol and Park B. Smith Hall.
A tradition in the construction industry, the ceremony featured
a steel beam that was signed by Carol and Park Smith ’54
and members of the College community and topped by a fir
tree and an American flag. The beam was lifted to the top
of Smith Hall and set in place by ironworkers to the cheers
of the crowd gathered below.
