By George Grattan:
Once again the C.I.A. (Crusader Intelligence Agency) has done its work and dumped a pile of news-clippings, green slips, and satellite photos featuring our classmates into my lap. (Just kidding about the satellite photos. Or at least that's what I'm letting you think, but I will suggest that many of you should think twice about putting in those backyard hot tubs.) Let's start with the Diaper Brigade before naptime rolls around . Cathleen Joyce Staley, who works for Tiffany & Co. out of her home in Chicago, brought us another little gem with Sarah Joyce Staley, born on Sept. 25, 1998. Elsewhere, little Kylie Anne (daughter and third child of Patricia Lawrence Robben and Matthew Robben '89, born Nov. 11) is undoubtedly already wondering why her older brother Christopher seems so reluctant to share his collection of Winnie-The-Pooh books. Two couples making the Center for Celtic Names very happy are Tim O'Brien and his wife, Kerry (Robertson) '92, who announce the Nov. 15, 1998 arrival of their daughter Ciaran Patricia, and Kevin and Susan (McMahon) Murphy, who tell us of the birth of their second son, Connor Scott, on March 25. Joanna (Dermody) Gale, bringing us up-to-date by sending a green slip that she's "been meaning to send for years now," letting us know that she married Jim Gale '90 in June of 1995, and that she and Jim welcomed their daughter, Natalie Kay, in February of 1997; Joanna and Jim have lived in Bridgewater, Mass., since 1997. Kathleen (O'Shaughnessy) Loeben reports that she's returned to the United States from a three-year stint in Germany, along with her husband, Mark, and their son, Sean Michael, born in Germany in September of 1998. (Boy, they let you declare just about anything through customs these days!) Kathleen works at home directing the international division of the Stock Market Game Program. ("Alex, I'll take Over-Hyped Technology IPO's for $400, please). Matthew A. Veno looks like he's had a busy year: he was promoted to assistant director of the Reach Out and Read National Center (snagging a White House meeting along the way), began the M.B.A. program at Boston University in the fall of 1998 (in the Public and Nonprofit Management Program), and found time to have his first child, Nicole. (But I bet he pretty much delegated the pregnancy and labor parts of that to his wife . slacker.) That wraps things up for this installment. Keep those cards and letters coming. Next time we'll run a contest for the most unusual bit of information. Anybody been jumping off a volcanic rim?  Started a theater group based on the works of Margaret Atwood?  Cashed in your 401K and sailed to Easter Island?  Let us know!  I'll come up with a prize. All decisions will be made by me, 'cause it's my dang stupid idea, okay? (Void where prohibited. No purchase necessary. May cause irritation.)
