Thomas D. Connelly has been
elected chair of the Parish Council of St. Joseph’s Church, Kingston, N.Y.; a
two-term president of the Hurley (N.Y.) Lions Club, he has also been awarded
lifetime membership in the club. Joseph E. Cunneen, who retired after 48 years
as editor of the ecumenical quarterly, CrossCurrents, recently published two
articles about the late French priest-novelist, Jean Sulivan—one in the Marquette
University quarterly, Renasence; the other, in the Jesuit publication, The Way.
Cunneen, who continues to serve as the movie critic for the National Catholic
Reporter, has also had articles published in Spiritus, Commonweal and the English
Jesuit publication, The Month.

retirement of Rev. John P. Driscoll, effective June 20. Fr.
Driscoll has served as the pastor of St.
Lawrence Church, New Bedford, Mass., since 1972. Maurice J. Lonsway Jr., M.D.,
continues to work as a consultant for Blue Cross; he also teaches ecology to
school
children at a nature center in St. Louis, Mo.

The Troy (N.Y.) Legislature honored Rev. Thomas Phelan on
the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination to
the priesthood, in recognition of his contributions
to Rensselaer
County’s religious, historic and cultural communities. Fr. Phelan, who served
as dean of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s (RPI) School of Humanities and
Social Services until his retirement in 1992, is pastor of Christ, Sun of Justice
University Parish, housed in the RPI Chapel and Cultural Center he helped establish
in 1969. He is also a longtime trustee of the Rensselaer County Historical Society,
which offers an endowed lecture series
in his name.

of Oregon selected
Harold D. “Bud” Fredericks as the recipient of its 2001 Outstanding Alumnus Award,
for the many contributions he has made in the field of special education. Fredericks
served as a researcher for 25 years at Western Oregon University, Teaching Research
Division,
prior to his retirement in 1995.

The Eastern Regional Office of the National Electrical Contractors
Association Inc. (NECA) has established an award in memory
of the late Donald F. Collins,
to be given to individuals who exemplify the qualities of integrity, loyalty
and dedication. The Western Massachusetts Chapter and NECA recently presented
this award in his memory to his wife, Louise, in recognition of his many years
of dedication and service to the electrical contracting industry. Mr. Collins,
who had been treasurer of the Collins Electric Co. in Chicopee, Mass., had served
the Western Massachusetts Chapter of NECA four years as its president; two years
as vice president; 12 years as treasurer; and almost 40 years as governor. The
Donald F. Collins Memorial Award is to be given on a selective
basis—whenever the Association feels that an individual is deserving of such
recognition.
Santo S. “Sam” Cataudella, D.M.D., has recently been promoted to professor of
oral and maxillofacial surgery-Boston University Medical Center; on May 1, he
was awarded a certificate
for “distinguished educator” of dental students in the specialty of oral and
maxillofacial surgery, Boston University, Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons selected Cataudella
as the recipient of its first Daniel J. Laskin Award for distinguished teaching
and mentoring of outstanding dental students committed to postgraduate training;
he is to receive the award in September at the association’s national meeting.
The Worcester Diocesan Guild of Our Lady of Providence honored John A Riordan,
M.D., in May, for volunteering his services at
the guild’s free health clinic at St. Bernard’s Church in Worcester.

For the past four years, Richard A. Madden has been a tour

Chateau-sur-Mer and Marble House. John F. O’Connor retired in April as the assistant
clerk magistrate, criminal session, for the Worcester County Clerk of Courts;
he began working for the court system in 1958 as a deputy assistant clerk in
the civil section of Worcester Superior Court.

Monsignor Harold B. Bumpus, who serves as spiritual moderator
for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, gave the invocation
at the 33rd annual convention
of the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, held May 7-9
in Tampa. Prior to his retirement, Frederick S. Conlin Jr., D.D.S., practiced
dentistry in West Springfield, Mass., for 38 years; he has recently been elected
to West Springfield’s First City Council. John W. Feuerbach, D.D.S., who has
recently retired, practiced dentistry in Larchmont, N.Y., for 42 years. Kenneth
V. McGinity has been elected vice president of the board of directors of the
Conference for Catholic Facility Management (CCFM) at its annual convention held
May 23 in Indianapolis, Ind.; the CCFM is a national organization of Catholic
dioceses responsible for building or restoring church facilities.
John D. O’Connell is retiring after 44 years as associate professor of accounting
and finance at Holy Cross; during the ’01-’02 academic year, he is to continue
to teach one course each semester. O’Connell was honored by his departmental
colleagues at a dinner on May 1 and, also, by the fourth-year accounting majors
during the final class of the spring semester.

Joseph F. Hellauer Jr., who is a technical
education manufacturing representative, assisted with the 27th annual Skills
USA-VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) state Leadership and Skills
Conference held in April at the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School
in Marlboro, Mass. Aiden J. Kenny is retiring after 16 years as computer coordinator
for the Haworth (N.J.) Public School system.

Kauff Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award in Broadcast Journalism
2001. Kevin J. Collins received an
honorary degree from Rutgers the State University of New Jersey, at commencement
exercises held May 17; Collins, who is executive vice president of Gates Capital
Corp. in Upper Saddle River, N.J., is chairman of the Board of Governors of Rutgers.
Curry College, Milton, Mass., selected John P. Hamill as a speaker and honorary
degree recipient at the college’s commencement ceremony held on May 20; Hamill
currently serves as the chairman and chief executive officer of Sovereign Bank
New England. Tim Hazen, executive director of the Connecticut Bar Association,
announced in April that the association had nominated John W. Hogan Jr. to a
one-year term as vice president, effective July 1. Richard A. Wiklund, M.D.,
is now the medical director of the operating rooms at Massachusetts General Hospital
and associate professor at Harvard
Medical School, Boston.

been inducted into the Massachusetts High School Football Association’s “Coaches

Arthur J. Krener, who is a professor
of mathematics at the University of California-Davis, has been named a Guggenheim
fellow this year. On April 26, Rimvydas P. Miksys was elected president of the
Seattle (Wash.) chapter of the Lithuanian-American Society; in November, he hosted
Vytautas Landsbergis, the first president of independent Lithuania, in his home
for several days. Thomas E. Sullivan, M.D., has been elected to a one-year term
as vice president of the Massachusetts Medical Society; Sullivan, who specializes
in cardiology and internal medicine, is associated with Peabody (Mass.) Medical
Associates.

recently awarded William E. Aubuchon III its Harold E. Drake
Citizen of the Year award, for the many contributions
he has made to the local area; Aubuchon currently serves as chairman of the board
of directors and chief executive officer of W.E. Aubuchon Co., Inc., a hardware
retail-store chain headquartered in Westminster, Mass. George J. Gilson, M.D.,
recently accepted a position as a perinatologist at the Alaska Native Medical
Center in Anchorage. Alton P. Mattioli was honored at a special ceremony held
in Plymouth, Mass., on July 7, in recognition of his exemplary service during
the Vietnam War. Mattioli, who served as a first lieutenant with the 101st Airborne,
was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action; state Rep. Vinny deMacedo
presented him with a proclamation from the House of Representatives acknowledging
his service, and the selectmen granted him permanent honorary citizenship of
the town of Plymouth. Mattioli currently works as a guidance counselor at Kent
(Wash.)
High School.

his contribution to the betterment of Brooklyn’s community and cultural life.
Kramer is conservator of the Brooklyn (N.Y.) Botanic Garden and president of
the Montauk Club in Park Slope. Lincoln Financial Group, headquartered in Fort
Wayne, Ind., announced that Mark E. Reynolds has joined the company’s annuities
operation as chief administrative officer. John L. Talvacchia joined the Boston
law firm of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott as a member of its corporate

R. “Margo” Griffin-Wilson presented a paper at University College Cork in Cork,
Ireland, as part of an annual seminar organized by the combined departments of
Irish at University College and the Cork Irish Texts Society. Griffin-Wilson
was one of five presenters to speak on the 17th-century
Gaelic poet, Dáibhí Ó Bruadair; her topic was the
poet’s love poems. Griffin-Wilson is currently the acting director of the College's

The Albany (N.Y.) College of
Pharmacy announced that Thomas E. D’Ambra has been selected to deliver the keynote
address at the college’s 121st commencement ceremonies held
on June 3. D’Ambra is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Albany
Molecular Research Inc. and a member of the college’s Presidential Advisory Board.
Thomas W. Kellner, who teaches sculpture at the Worcester Art Museum and serves
as an adjunct faculty member at Anna Maria College, Paxton, Mass., recently donated
a sculpture in relief of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) to Anna
Maria College. The sculpture is to remain on permanent display as part of the
college’s art collection. Kellner did the sculpture of Bishop Fenwick at the
entrance to Brooks Music Hall at Holy Cross. Charles E. Rainey Jr. has been elected
chairman of the 2001-02 board of directors of the Crime Prevention Association
of Philadelphia; he is administrative law judge for the Pennsylvania Public Utility
Commission in Philadelphia. The New England American Studies Association recently
awarded Nancy Lusignan Schultz its Lois Rudnick Book Prize, for her work,
Fire & Roses: The Burning of the Charlestown Convent, 1834; Schultz is an
English professor and coordinator of graduate studies in English at Salem (Mass.)
State College.
