Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving
The mens and womens swimming and diving teams
finished their seasons with plenty of success that is sure
to be carried into the next year. Fifteen new school standards
were established, nine on the mens side and six for
the Crusader women. The women (5-7) were seventh of eight
teams at the Patriot League Championships, Feb. 20-22, in
Lewisburg, Pa., while the men (5-5) swam to a seventh-place
finish.
In other postseason competition, Mike Emmons 03 (Middleboro,
Mass.) was Holy Cross sole participant at the ECAC
Championships, at the University of Pittsburgh, where he
set new school records in the 200-yard individual medley
(1:58.17) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:12.17), finishing
24th and 14th, respectively. He also placed 21st in the 1650-yard
freestyle with a school-record time of 16:46.28. Carolyn
Pucko 04 (Webster, N.Y.) represented the Crusaders
at the 2003 NCAA Zone A Qualifying Meet. She finished 26th
on the one-meter board (194.90) and 36th on the three-meter
(172.45).
At the Patriot League Championships, school swimmers set
a total of eight new school records. Emily Ferris 06 (Rockville
Centre, N.Y.) established four new standards: 50 fly (27.37),
50 back (28.12), 100 back (59.30), and 200 back (2:08.36).
Her 200 back performance took fourth in the finals. Laura
Brennan 04 (Niceville, Fla.), who owns the school
record in the 50-yard freestyle, just missed bettering the
standard with a performance of 24.82, good enough for seventh
place. Scott Rimm 04 (Potomac, Md.) set three
new individual records in: 50 free (21.29), 100 free (46.22),
and the 200 free (1:41.24) in which he placed third overall.
In addition, his 100-free effort landed him fifth in the
finals. Rimm also participated in the record-setting 200-yard
medley relay (1:39.53). His teammate on that relay was Emmons,
who swam to a school-best 51.84 in the 100-yard free. Also
representing Holy Cross in that relay were Tom Connors 03 (Holmdel,
N.J.) and Ian Hennessey 03 (East Greenwich,
R.I.).
Holy Cross diving contingent at the Patriot League
Championships did not disappoint either as Pucko, the three-time
Patriot League Diver of the Week, claimed the silver on the
three-meter board (432.35) and took third on the one-meter
board (236.20) while Tim Tuck 03 (Arlington,
Va.), who won the Patriot League Diver of the Week award
once, finished sixth in the finals of the one-meter.
