Carol B. Conaway, assistant professor of political science,
recently received a prize from the Western Political Science
Association for the “Best Paper in Black Politics.” The
article, “Crown Heights: Coverage of the Race War
That Wasn’t,” appeared in the fall 1999 issue
of the distinguished political science journal, Polity.
Conaway specializes in the study of the effects of media
and race in American politics. She is also one of only
25 recipients in the nation of a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral
Fellowship. The one-year grant will enable her to research
her latest project, titled “Blaming Mayors: The Politics
