Donald
F. Collins '49, associate trustee and past chairman of the
President's Council, passed away while vacationing in the
Virgin Islands on March 12. He was the co-owner and director
of Collins Electrical Company in Chicopee, Mass. A native
of Springfield, Mass., he was a graduate of Springfield Technical
High School. At Holy Cross, he was active in intramural sports
and debating and served on the staff of the Purple Patcher,
The Purple, and The Tomahawk. Upon graduating
from the College, he attended Columbia University Graduate
School of Business. He was a lieutenant in the Army Corps
of Engineers during the Korean War.
Collins was a charter
member, regent and chairman of the President's Council. He was an associate
trustee of the College and also served as president of the General Alumni Association
and director and president of the Alumni
Club of Pioneer Valley.
He leaves
his wife, Louise Marie (Kelly) Collins, a brother, William A. Collins '50, and
four sisters. His son, Brendan A. Collins '78, passed away in 1996. His father
was the late William P. Collins '19. He was the nephew of James
F. Egan '21, Rev. John J. Collins '18, Edward T. Collins '29, and Rev. Joseph
T. Collins '29. He was the brother-in-law of Lawrence J. Eagan '54 and the uncle
of Ann Collins Bilodeau '82, John T. Collins '68, Ann Eagan
Dawson '80, Dominic J. Dinardo '75, Lawrence Eagan '83, Mary Anne McEwen
Eagan '83, James F.X. Egan, M.D., '65, John J. Egan '66, Richard T. Egan '67,
James Krumsiek '86, Michael Krumsiek '93, Ellen Ferrucci McKenna '83, Paul J.
McKenna III '75, and Stephen W. McKenna, D.M.D., '83.
