This year, two new trustees have joined
the Holy Cross Board:
John Figge ’59 is chairman of the
board for Wealthengine, a Washington, D.C.-based company
that serves as a customer and donor resource for banks and
nonprofit organizations. The former vice chairman and chief
executive officer of Davenport Bank and Trust Company, Figge
has served on the bank’s board of directors since 1969.
Prior to becoming chairman of Davenport Bank and Trust, he
spent two years working as a financial consultant for economic
development with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In that capacity,
he served as an economic adviser for tribes throughout the
West and Southwest.
Figge holds degrees from the Graduate School of Banking
of the University of Wisconsin . He received an honorary
doctorate degree from Saint Ambrose University , Davenport,
Iowa . A trustee of Georgetown Preparatory School, Bethesda,
Md., Figge is also a member of the board of fellows for
the University of Iowa’s religion department. In addition
to serving on the board of the Catholic Charities Foundation,
Washington, D.C., he is the finance chairman for the Sovereign
Military Order of Malta-Federal Association.
Figge is a class agent and a career planning counselor.
A member of the 1843 Society and the Cornerstone Society,
he is a lifetime member of the President’s Council.
He and his wife, Patricia, reside in Sea Island, Ga. They
have six children and 18 grandchildren.
Vantrice Taylor graduated from the College
last May with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. As
a student, she worked as a fellow and assistant recruiter
at the Nativity School of Worcester, where she designed and
implemented a curriculum for fifth-grade science and religion.
A volunteer coordinator for the Friendly House Shelter, Taylor
ran a “homework help” program for children living
in the shelter, recruited tutors and worked on grant proposals.
A recipient of the College’s St. Ignatius Award, she
was also honored with the Holy Cross Presidential Service
Award. Prior to graduation, Taylor was a member of the First-Year
Program, the Hanselman House Council, the Black Student Union,
the Student Government Association and the Financial Planning
Committee; in addition, she served as the student adviser
to the Bishop Healy Multicultural Society. Taylor is currently
a teacher at the Nativity School of Worcester.
