Maria R. Bevacqua was a featured speaker at the two-day symposium, “Rethinking Rape/The Ethics and Politics of Sexual Assault,” held in March at Holy Cross as part of Women’s History Month. Bevacqua is an assistant professor of women’s studies at Minnesota State University and author of Rape on the Public Agenda: Feminism and the Politics of Sexual Assault. Susan Ashe Dudley and her husband, Dane, announce the birth of their daughter, Katherine Rose, on May 23. Jennifer (Rodriguez) Fitzpatrick and her husband, William ’89, announce the birth of their daughter, Lauren Marie, on Oct. 16, 2001. Elizabeth J. and Thomas P. Gualtieri-Reed announce the birth of their son, Declan, in February. Kevin M. Jordan and his wife, Kristin, announce the birth of their son, Leo Kearns. Gregory F. Kozielec, M.D., who lives in Dallas, Texas, is a vitreo-retinal surgeon. Andrew F. Noga is the principal of Incarnate Word High School, San Antonio, Texas, which was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Maj. Brian P. O’Keefe, USMC, recently received the meritorious service medal for two years of service at the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, N.C., as a communications supervisor. O’Keefe is currently assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. The Aug. 22 edition of the Reading Advocate included a Q&A with Lauren Bradford O’Malley and her husband, Peter ’93, about their work as caretakers of the historic Parker Tavern in Reading, Mass. Kathleen D. Reardon has been promoted to vice president, public affairs and community relations manager at Citizens Bank, Manchester, N.H. Her responsibilities include managing charitable contributions, developing products and services to meet community needs and managing the corporate volunteerism program for the bank. Kathleen Butler Smith and her husband, Jim, announce the birth of their son, Charles Butler, on June 18.

Matthew J. McCusker, who works for J.D. Edwards in Costa Mesa, Calif., recently completed his M.B.A. at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business Management in Culver City, Calif. Timothy W. O’Brien and his wife, Keri, announce the birth of their son, Nicholas Saunders, on Feb. 6. O’Brien, who completed his M.B.A. at Duke University, Durham, N.C., in May 2000, is a finance manager at Merck & Co. in Whitehouse Station, N.J., supporting Merck’s subsidiaries in Europe. Timothy Halleron announce the birth of their daughter, Colleen Macnamara, on July 16. Brian P. Nigri and his wife, Cheryl, announce the birth of their daughter, Lauren Kate, on May 30. Edward J. “Ted” Rinck has been working with the pharmaceutical company, Healthpoint, for the last three years. Elizabeth A. Walsh, who received her master of arts degree in Spanish from California State University in conjunction with La Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica in November 2000, is a Spanish teacher and head field hockey coach at Cranford (N.J.) High School; she is also an adjunct professor of education at Seton Hall University. In 2001-02, Walsh taught in two Mexican Federal Schools in Veracruz, as part of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange program.

Majoy, who recently worked as a biology laboratory supervisor at Holy Cross, is now a student at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, North Grafton, Mass. Toni H. Picerno, D.O., who completed her pediatrics residency at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, accepted a position with a small pediatric group practice in Robstown, Texas, beginning in August. Cavanagh, who received her degree from Suffolk University Law School, Boston, in May, has accepted a position as an associate at the Boston law firm of Campbell, Campbell, Edwards & Conroy, effective this fall. Joanne (Correllus) Crane and her husband, Brad, announce the birth of their son, Benjamin James, on June 17. Thomas C. Donahoe and his wife, Carolyn, announce the birth of their son, Kevin Thomas, on Jan. 25. Donahoe recently began working for G.E. Financial as a regional vice president for the Southeast United States. Steven E. Gagne was recently hired as an assistant district attorney in Bristol County, specializing in appellate practice. Richard V. Hoppenhauer recently resigned his active duty commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in Navy Special Warfare to enter the FBI. After completing the 16-week program at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., he was sworn in as a special agent by Director Robert Mueller and assigned to the Philadelphia (Pa.) Field Office. Meghan T. Keaney, who is a Ph.D. candidate at Boston University’s School of Public Health, was the recipient of a 2002 Switzer Environmental Fellowship. Holly R. Khachadoorian, M.D., who received her M.D./M.B.A. in health management in May from Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, is currently employed at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, as a resident in obstetrics and gynecology. Brian C. Sirois, who recently completed a fellowship in clinical health psychology at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center/Yale University School of Medicine, has accepted a position as a behavioral medicine consultant with the Permanente Medical Group. Emily P. Chadwick recently accepted the position of assistant director of admissions at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Capt. Justin F. DeVito, D.O., USAF, received his D.O. in June from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine; he is pursuing his pediatric residency at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. Michele Trotta DeVito is teaching Spanish at Pass Christian (Miss.) High School and Middle School. Brian E. Fodera, who works in the corporate legal group at Fidelity Investments, Boston, is also a player/manager of an amateur baseball team in Boston; he joined the league following graduation and became a manager in 2000. Juan “Jon” Gaztanaga, who received his degree from the University of Chicago Medical School, is beginning his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center. Giulia Saraceno Lau, D.O., who received her degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, Maine, in June, is doing an internship at the Reading (Pa.) In May, Christine A. Rogers received her master’s degree in secondary education from Fitchburg (Mass.) State College. Sarah McSweeney Ryan M.D. is in her second-year residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital. Robert K. Sanchez Jr. is currently a project manager at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in Plano, Texas. John T. Szeghy recently accepted a position as a project manager for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s east eBusiness division. Capt. Jason E. Tauches, USMC, who was recalled to active duty, is completing a six-month deployment in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom before returning to Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Caroline Drzal Arnedt, who graduated from the University of Connecticut in December 2001, is now completing her clinical fellowship in audiology at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. Cheryl Bodek, a member of the U.S. State Department Foreign Service, is currently serving as a vice consul at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, the Philippines. Michelle S. Cadin, who received her degree from Catholic University Law School in May, is currently working for the Washington, D.C., law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo as an associate in its communications practice. Erin K. Clarke works as a speech language pathologist at The River School in Washington, D.C., assisting students with cochlear implants and hearing loss. The Boston-based company, Vitale, Caturano & Co. recently announced that Allison H. Egbert has been appointed to its staff as a senior associate; her responsibilities include providing a wide variety of tax, accounting and business advisory services for the firm. Laura A. Gillooly is in her fourth year of medical school at Tufts University in Boston. Kelly M. Kavanaugh is a third-grade teacher at the Cos Cob School in Greenwich, Conn. Clifford J. Kirvan Jr. is currently pursuing his M.B.A. at Gannon University in Erie, Pa. Lt. Miriam S. Merz, M.D., U.S.N., received her degree from Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, N.H., in June; she is currently serving her internship as a lieutenant at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Tiffany Fein Ohlson is a teacher in the Boston Public Schools. C. Emil Penarubia was one of 10 recipients of the 2001 Fulbright Teacher Exchange Fellowship to Italy; while there, he studied at the American Academy in Rome and at the Villa Vergiliana in Naples. Upon his return, Penarubia received a teaching fellowship from Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass., to survey various ancient sites in Greece. He recently received tenure in the classics department at Boston College High School where he also directs the BC High Jazz Band. Megan F. Pinch, who received her M.F.A. degree in photography from SUNY-Brockport in December 2001, has accepted a position as a visiting assistant professor in the visual arts department at Holy Cross for the 2002-03 academic year. Eric J. Scholten, who was ordained to the Gospel Ministry last November, works as a youth pastor in Lake City, Fla. Steven M. Solano is a third-year student at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Morgan M. Tini is pursuing her Ph.D. in psychology at Stony Brook University.

The Aug. 30 edition of the New Bedford, Mass., Standard Times, included a story about Stefani L. Bell, titled “An ambassador for glasnost,” which describes her two recent trips to Russia. Kelly M. DeGostin, who received her master’s degree in Hispanic linguistics from the University of Arizona in December, has been accepted to law school at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. 1st Lt. Griffith M. Marshall, USMC, recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The Aug. 22 edition of Cape Cod Times included a story about volunteers, including Melissa A. Cunningham, who recently served an 11-month stint with AmeriCorps Cape Cod. Cunningham was one of 21 recruits to graduate in August from the environmentally focused national service program. Jonathan B. Mertz is currently a management trainee at Braishfield Associates, Inc., in its Orlando, Fla., office. The July 19 edition of the Vermont Catholic Tribune included a story about Joseph J. O’Dea Jr., who is serving as a lay volunteer with the congregation of Christian Brothers in Canto Grande, Peru. O’Dea, who teaches physical education at Fey y Alegria, a Jesuit-built, Christian Brothers-operated school, also coaches basketball, assists with an evening computer program for students, advises at a computer laboratory and works at an English language clinic.

MARRIED: Colleen D. Mooney and James M. Vaiciulis, on July 13, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Center Moriches, N.Y.

Erratum: Michael P. McHugh ’01 did run in the Anchorage marathon as noted in the summer ’02 issue of Holy Cross Magazine; he was not, however, sponsored or employed by Speedo. McHugh has now completed his studies and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston.
