Cornelius V. “Connie” McGillicuddy has been named to the western New York Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition of his 60-year contribution to the sport in the region. Previously, he has been selected for induction into the Canisius High School, Western New York Basketball Officials and Greater Buffalo Sports halls of fame.

Dolan Jr. now has an office in Beverly Hills, Calif., for financial management, business development and research/referral of legal matters; his pro bono activities include work with alcoholics and the homeless in West Los Angeles. In addition, Dolan has appeared in a variety of films and television shows.

Rev. Donald L. Larkin, S.J., who returned to Jamaica about a year ago, has been serving as the coordinator of health and hospital ministry for the archdiocese, doing retreat and spirituality work and assisting in various churches on the weekends. Previously, he had taken a one-year sabbatical that concluded with a one-month course at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem. John J. “Jack” McDermott, who has been retired almost eight years from the federal government, returned to work as a private consultant from March through early May to help the FAA and the new Transportation Security Administration set up the Federal Air Marshal program. Frank E. McGinity has been elected president of the California branch of the American Irish Historical Society; he is also a member of the executive council of the society.

St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee Foundation, Mequon, Wis., announced in August that Edwin G. Montgomery, M.D., has been selected as the first recipient of the Doerr Family “Tradition of Caring Award,” to be presented annually to an individual who demonstrates “an exceptional spirit of leadership in cementing the relationship between the hospital and the community.” Montgomery is president of the medical staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee and a pediatrician at Cedar Mills Medical Group in Cedarburg.

Rev. Hugh F. Crean, who serves as the pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church, Westfield, Mass., celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood in May. Thomas J. Romano recently retired from the Worcester School Department after serving 38 years as head of the guidance department at North High and Doherty Memorial High School.

Schaab is the recipient of the 2002 Golden Harvest Jim Curran Leadership Award presented by the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, of which he is a board member and treasurer. Schaab currently serves as the vice president of The Westchester County Association Inc. in White Plains, N.Y.

A dedication ceremony took place on Aug. 17 to mark completion of the first 100 Ethel R. Lawrence Homes – affordable housing units built in Mount Laurel, N.J., by the non-profit organization, Fair Share Housing Development Corp., under the leadership of its founder and executive director, Peter J. O’Connor. The dedication marks the culmination of more than 30 years of legal work by O’Connor to meet the housing needs of low- and moderate-income individuals in the township (see the story about O’Connor’s efforts on Page 24 of the fall 2001 edition of HCM).

John D. Aquilino Jr. is editor in chief of the nonprofit International Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources and a partner with PEAT Institute in Washington, D.C. Head coach of St. Jerome T-ball in Hyattsville, Md., he has started a nonprofit, “Friends of St. Jerome/Catholic Sportsmen Organization,” to raise money for athletic educational programs as an alternative to youth violence. In April, John R. Bioty Jr. accepted an associate’s position with Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, Va., working on the defense team in strategies and analysis. James W. DiMarzo, president of the Buyer’s Agent, DiMarzo Realty Inc., located in Vero Beach, Fla., was recently selected for induction into “The Buyer’s Agent Hall of Fame.” Timothy A. Ferris, who is an independent financial advisor, has operated his own investment advisory and brokerage business in Cleveland, Ohio, since 1989. Barry J. Gainor, M.D., is a professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is also the current chairman of the Board of Health Volunteers Overseas, which won the 2002 Award for Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives. James M. Lyons, a partner in the Denver, Colo., law firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons, received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, “for his contribution to economic development and for his work in building the Northern Ireland peace process.” Lyons had served as the U.S. Observer to the International Fund for Ireland and special advisor to the president and secretary of state for Economic Initiatives in Ireland under the Clinton administration. He received the degree during a special graduation ceremony held in July at the University of Colorado-Denver.

Lawrence W. Koenig serves as the Westmoreland County assistant district attorney in Greensburg, Pa. In May, Hugh D. Leahy Jr., executive vice president of Wilmington (Del.) Trust Company, was elected president of the Delaware Bankers Association. In March, William J. “Bill” Mostyn III was elected deputy general counsel and secretary of the Gillette Company in Boston.

Raymond E. Carey III has been selected as an inductee into the Hall of Honor of St. John’s Preparatory School, Danvers, Mass., as part of the school’s “95th Anniversary Gala,” celebrating its founding in 1907. A 1967 graduate of St. John’s, Carey has been associated with the school since 1977 where he serves as a teacher and track coach. Galen H. Graham, president of DeVry University – Columbus, Ohio, campus and regional vice president of DeVry University, has been honored by The Ohio State University’s Humanities Alumni Society with its Humanities Award of Distinction; the award recognizes the achievements of outstanding Ohio State alumni. In July, CNA Financial Corp. announced that Stephen W. Lilienthal has been named its chief executive, effective Aug. 26. Lilienthal, who had most recently been the president and chief executive of the CNA Property & Casualty operations, was also named chairman and chief executive of the CNA Insurance Companies division.

In February, the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati Ohio, awarded Rabbi Norman M. Cohen the degree of doctor of divinity. Rabbi Cohen, who has served Bet Shalom Congregation in Hopkins, Minn., since its inception in 1981, now heads the congregation’s new synagogue in Minnetonka, Minn., which was dedicated last May. Patrick M. Connolly is a partner with the Atlanta (Ga.) law firm of Gambrell & Stolz. Richard J. Greisch has joined the Stamford, Conn., office of Ernst & Young as a partner, serving global and high growth clients. Richard J. Kenny is in practice with Frank G. Usseglio ’83, Karen (Keefe) Clark ’87 and Timothy L. O’Keefe ’89, in the newly opened Hartford, Conn., law firm of Kenny, O’Keefe & Usseglio. Dennis M. Manning, M.D., is a senior associate consultant in the department of medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Mark L. Monty recently accepted a position at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., as a senior development officer.

Ciaramicoli Jr. has recently been appointed the chief executive officer of Tri-County Medical Associates Inc., a physician’s practice group affiliated with Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital in Milford, Mass. Richard P. Hecker, who is an employee benefit broker specializing in group insurance products and pension planning, recently purchased the company, Custead, Hecker & Ott, Inc., located in Gaithersburg, Md.

In April, Robert J. Brennan was sworn in as a Foreign Service officer for the U.S. State Department, with Secretary of State Colin Powell presiding. Brennan accepted a post at the American Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvadore, as of July 12. Henry P. Miranda has recently been appointed dean of the College of Natural Sciences of Colorado State University at Fort Collins. Miranda, who joined the faculty of Colorado State as an assistant professor of mathematics in 1981, has served as chairman of the mathematics department since 1998. Rev. Msgr. R. Francis Muench was named a “Prelate of Honor” in August by Pope John Paul II. Peter J. Vaas, who became head coach of the Berlin Thunder in 2000, was named Europe’s Coach of the Year in June.

Bean has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve; he currently serves as a federal trial attorney with the Air Force Legal Services Agency at the commercial litigation division, Arlington, Va. Jerrold K. “Jerry” Brown has recently been promoted to “group senior vice president” for Textron Financial Corporation Asset Based Lending Group, an international finance company based in Providence, R.I. In this capacity, Brown has operational and portfolio management functions reporting to him. Mark A. Cowell has been named the new director of the CommonHealth Employment Connection (CHEC) in Boston. His responsibilities include leading CHEC in assisting persons with disabilities obtain the health insurance and services needed for employment; improving the content and quality of health services and information; and facilitating communication and coordination among consumers, service providers and employers.

Cambridgeport Bank, Brighton, Mass., recently announced that Kathleen C. McGahan has joined the bank as a mortgage consultant; her responsibilities include originating and closing residential mortgages in the communities of Cambridge and Boston. Rev. Joseph M. O’Keefe. S.J., who serves as associate dean and associate professor at Boston College’s Carolyn A. and Peter S. Lynch School of Education, has been named to the board of trustees of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. The “Wall Street 50” issue of Irish America (Aug./Sept. 2002) included a profile of Joseph M. Petri, the senior executive vice president and treasurer of HSBC Bank USA in New York City.

The Aug. 30 edition of the Boston Business Journal included a profile of Joseph P. Fallon, who is now a principal of the Dallas, Texas-based real estate company, Trammell Crow Co.; he heads the brokerage team in the firm’s Boston office. Catherine “Kate” Chagnon Gressler, who is supervisor of psychiatric rehabilitation at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y., and clinical assistant to Bronx APA president, Sesagarhi Doddi, M.D., recently received her fifth New York City achievement recognition award. Honored for heroism in the wake of the World Trade Center tragedy on Sept. 11, she had provided on-site counseling to emergency personnel and survivors. A regular contributor to Bronxnet TV and Westchester Cable, Gressler is a Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.; she had most recently been a guest lecturer at Fordham University in New York City. Nancy Lusignan Schultz is the recipient of a 2002-03 senior fellowship at the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass.; she is currently professor and coordinator of graduate programs in English and American Studies at Salem (Mass.) State College.

Francis J. Cranston Jr. has accepted the full-time position of director of athletics at Quabbin Regional Jr.-Sr. High School in Barre, Mass. Cranston has coached wrestling at Quabbin for the past 23 years while operating his own insurance agency; he has recently sold the business. Robert D. Siefert is the principal and co-founder of Back Bay Financial Group, with offices in Boston and Wakefield, Mass.; the September issue of Mutual Fund Magazine listed Siefert as one of the 100 top advisors in the country.
