The Nativity School of Worcester is a new Catholic, inner-city
middle school for boys that will open in September 2003 and
is sponsored by the Society of Jesus of New England and the
College of the Holy Cross. The Trustees seek to hire a Principal
to begin his or her responsibilities on or about January
2003 in order to lead in establishing the school and preparing
it for an outstanding inaugural year. The Principal is the
leader in the academic administration of the school, including
student admissions and secondary education placements, faculty
recruitment, training and supervision, curriculum development,
discipline and school-wide extra-curricular activities. It
is essential that the Principal be committed to urban education
and positively disposed toward the typical student of these
schools. The Principal has the opportunity to build a new
enterprise based on a proven method in urban education, the
Nativity model.
The Principal is responsible for:
- Recruitment of a talented and dedicated faculty.
- Developing, updating, and implementing the school curriculum,
incorporating federal, state, and diocesan standards, and
adapting them to the needs of the students.
- The quality of teaching in the school. This person supervises
and evaluates all teachers, conducts orientation programs
for new teachers, mentors or arranges for the mentoring
of new teachers, and provides opportunities for professional
development.
- Duties include scheduling classes, extended day activities,
and teachers duties; scheduling monthly calendars;
coordinating special activities, parent/teacher conferences,
and volunteers assignments; conducting fire drills;
developing and implementing emergency evacuation plans
and handling whatever concerns the well-running of the
school and its programs.

adolescent boys.
- Eagerness and ability to lead a school with a strong
spiritual foundation.
