Aug. 9, James E. Burke '47
and Honorary '89 received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest
civilian award, for his high standards of "corporate responsibility and civic
involvement." The retired chairman and chief executive officer
of Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., Burke has served as chairman of
the board of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America since 1989; in this capacity,
he has overseen the national public service anti-drug advertising
campaign.
Marian
Wright Edelman, Honorary '87, founder of the Children's Defense Fund, was also
a recipient of this award.
