On Dec. 10, the College
hosted, “So I will disappear”: Insights into
the Writings of Thomas Merton, an all-day conference commemorating
the life, work and writings of the celebrated Trappist monk.
The event was held on the 35th anniversary of Merton’s
death.
Sponsored by the Center for Religion, Ethics
and Culture at Holy Cross, the program featured several well-known
presenters,
including Patrick F. O’Connell ’69, associate
professor in the departments of English and theology at Gannon
University, Erie, Pa., editor of The
Vision of Thomas Merton,
and co-author of The Thomas Merton
Encyclopedia; and Rev.
William Reiser, S.J., professor of theology in the College’s
religious studies department, and author of several books,
including his most recent work, Jesus
in Solidarity with His People.
